Summative Assessment Rubric - Criterion A - Knowledge and Understanding Congratulations Year 8 Peace, you have just successfully completed your Music exam. This exam will be marked according to the Criteria A - Knowledge and Understanding
There were 3 sections (A, B and C) and each section revisited those concepts we have been studying in the past 2 months. Section A tested your ability to remember concepts
and explaining and using the appropriate vocabulary for definitions. Section B tested your skill and understanding in writing a drum score and Section C tested your skills at
analyzing a drum score with some basic theory knowledge.
Below is the rubric used to mark and grade your exam.
Hello Young Year 8 Peace Musicians..
Our music course this year will be 10 - 12 week long. During this time we will be looking at the following Musical Concepts
Criterion A - understanding rhythmic concepts (describing syncopation, meter, tempo, poly-rhythms, rhythmic texture, ostinato, call and response)
Criterion A - developing and understanding for an African culture by researching a specific African country and defining how music is used in their culture
Criterion B - writing a drum score for 4 or more independent parts using appropriate notation, articulation format and layout
Criterion B - a 2 minute group performance of the written drum composition in front of an audience
Criterion C - using the Developmental Workbook to record all thought processes, development of musical ideas, recording teacher and peer feedback
Criterion D - personal engagement and enthusiasm, commitment and self-motivation throughout the 12 week period
